About us We are a river based angling club with seven waters on the Great Ouse in and around Bedford. As a river only club we are likely to appeal to the more traditional angler (pleasure, specialist, specimen or match) With seven waters and low membership numbers peaceful angling is the norm. As a river only club the statutory restriction relating to the close season (i.e. no fishing in the period 15 March to 15 June inclusive) applies. The Club's waters contain a variety of species, several of which reach good size.
All of our waters are natural and therefore access can be a problem; the Biddenham Church Farm and Bedford Fenlake waters probably offer the best access so those with limited mobility should visit them if considering becoming a member.
There is a small match section – refer to the Club membership book for dates and venues.
Car parking at some waters is restricted but with the low membership numbers parking is rarely a problem unless a match is being fished. Always check the membership book for the venues of matches.
Membership, subject to the rules of the Club, is open to all but is restricted in numbers. Membership books are currently still available. Membership and day tickets are not available on the bank and must be purchased in advance.
The Club will consider letting out its waters on a daily basis to other clubs and associations providing application is made to the Secretary prior to May.
Upper Great Ouse The Great Ouse down to Bedford is generally classified by the Environment Agency as a Class "A" fishery. On the whole roach are the predominate species, both numerically and in terms of biomass, followed, in terms of biomass, by chub and then barbel. Unlike the Ouse further upstream Signal crayfish have not been reported as a problem in our waters.
