HEALTH & SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
You are responsible for your own and other persons' safety so always think before you act.
Electricity kills. It can jump up to 11 metres in the right weather conditions. Do not walk under overhead power cables with rods or poles held upright. Do not fish within 30 metres of overhead cables.
River banks can be slippery and may be liable to subsidence.
Overgrown banks may hide trip hazards such as tree stumps.
Overgrown banks may hide cut hazards such as broken glass, thorns, and discarded needles -all can be a source of infection.
Open wounds should be covered. Infection can be introduced via the mouth when eating, drinking or smoking. Infections such as leptospirosis can be carried by animals. The acute form, Weil's Disease, can be fatal. Seek medical advice if you have unexplained illness, such as flu-Iike symptoms, within 2 to 14 days of fishing and do mention that you fish.
Fishing tackle and in particular fishing hooks can inflict injury. Be careful casting - both on the back cast and the direction in which you are casting. Leger weights and lures can inflict serious injury to others.
Wear suitable clothing and footwear and pay attention to weather forecasts. Ensure someone knows where you are and if possible carry a mobile phone.
Advise the Club of any safety incidents or near miss incidents.
